DSBBC Hands Out Post-Season Awards

November 14, 2011 – The Diamond State Base Ball Club handed out three post-season awards yesterday at the club’s postseason meeting.

Becky Webb, the Superintendent of Fort DuPont State Park, was selected for the Levi C. Bird Award, as the club’s Booster of the Year.  Her support and coordination with park staff was instrumental to Diamond State’s success.

2011 Assistant Field Captain and catcher, Frank “The Flying Dutchman” Brevoort, IV, won the Charles M. Tatnall Award as the ball club’s Striker of the Year.  Dutch had a phenomenal year at the plate, leading Diamond State in most offensive categories, including Batting Average (.707), On Base Percentage (.717), Slugging Percentage (.837), Total Bases (77), Hits (65) and Tallies (48).

The Fergus G. “Fergy” Malone Award, given to Diamond State’s Most Valuable Player, was bestowed upon Diamond State Field Captain Garrett “Steady” Perdick for his contributions on the field and off.  Under Steady’s leadership, the club posted its best single season record since reforming in 2009.  He led Diamond State in several categories, including Games Played (26), Doubles (14) and Walks (5).  His 57 hits resulted in a staggering .626 Batting Average.  Living up to his nickname, Steady anchored down third base with exceptional play all season.
