Diamond States End Season with Successful Pennock Cup

In their final engagement of the 2015 campaign, the Diamond State Base Ball Club ventured to the Walker Polo Grounds in Unionville, PA to participate in the Pennock Cup Festival.

The day opened with a match against the Ironsides of Lancaster, participating in their inaugural match.  The new club, aided by ballists from throughout the league, put on a strong showing.  However, the seasoned Delaware nine was too much for the upstarts, tallying 8 aces in their sixth inning on the way to a 9-3 victory.

The second match of the day was a showdown against the high-quality nine of the Mohican BBC. As is tradition when these two clubs meet on the field, a closely contested match was the order of the day.  The boys from Kennett Square showed the power of their bats early on, jumping out to a 7-0 advantage after the first 2 innings.  However, the resilient Blue and Black started to chip away at the deficit, using a 4-tally third inning to work their way to an 9-7 advantage after five innings.  The Mohican produced a single ace in their 6th inning to draw within a single ace.  Neither side was able to add to their tally, as strong fielding took over in the late innings.  The Diamond States were able to escape with a 9-8 victory.

The Diamond States thank all of their supporters for another successful season and are anxiously awaiting the start of the 2016 matches.
