Diamond States Take Home Opener Over Monmouth Furnace

On Sunday, May 21 the Diamond State Base Ball Club played their first match of the season at Ft. DuPont in Delaware City.  They played host to the Monmouth Furnace BBC of New Jersey.  The Delaware nine jumped out to an early advantage on the strength of nine first-inning tallies.  Meanwhile, the club played strong defense, allowing only a smattering of opposing aces.  The Diamond States were able to pull away in the late innings on their way to a 23-8 victory.  The Blue and Black were led at the striker’s line by Boots, who collected 6 hits, including 4 triples and a double.  Blackbart and Anchor each added 5 hits.

The Diamond State BBC will play an exhibition on Saturday, May 27 against the McKean High School baseball team.  They will then return to MAVBBL action on Sunday, June 4.  They will play the Fairplay BBC of Talbot starting at 1:00 pm at Ft. Delaware on Pea Patch Island.
