Diamond State Takes Home Dover Days Cup

The Diamond State Base Ball Club hosted the Chesapeake Nine on Saturday, May 6 on the grounds of the Murphy School in Dover, DE.  Governor John Carney threw out the ceremonial first pitch. As the action got under way, the Diamond States jumped out to an early advantage on the strength of 4 tallies in the 2nd inning followed by 5 more in the 3rd.  The fielders took over from there, holding the Maryland side to only a smattering of aces on the way to a 13-5 victory.  The club was lead to victory by Memphis who, in addition to demonstrating his prowess between the pitching points, reached base in each of his 5 trips to the striker’s line.  Preacher, Thunder and Blackbart also each added 4 hits to the offensive effort.

The Diamond States will return to action on Sunday, May 21 as they play host to the Monmouth Furnace BBC of Monmouth and United BBC of Trenton.  The games will be the club’s first at their home field at Ft. DuPont after rain forced the cancellation of matches scheduled for there earlier in the season.
