Diamond State Victorious on Pea Patch Island
The Diamond State Base Ball Club set sail for Ft. Delaware on Pea Patch Island on June 7 for a match against the Rising Sun BBC. On a beautiful day for base ball, the 2 clubs squared off in a well-played affair.
The Maryland nine jumped out to an early advantage by tallying 3 aces in their first inning on their way to a 4-1 lead after their first four innings. However, the Diamond State bats came alive during their 5th turn at the bat, tallying 5 aces to take a 6-4 advantage on the score board. The fielders in the Blue and Black stemmed any further Rising Sun barages, allowing only 3 aces over the remainder of the game. Meanwhile, the Delaware strikers padded their advantage with 3 additional tallies in their 6th inning and 4 more in the 8th. The final tally was a 13-7 advantage for the Diamond State nine. The victory improved the club’s overall record to 8 wins against 2 losses.
The club was lead at the striker’s line by Blackbart (4 hits including a double and triple), Buzz (3 hits including a double and triple) and River (2 hits including a home run).
The Diamond State BBC will return to action on June 22 for a trip to Mardela Springs, MD to take part in Curly Day with the Fair Play BBC of Talbot County and the Brooklyn Atlantics.
