Diamond State, Lewes Split in Pursuit of Delaware Cup
On Saturday, September 13 the Diamond State Base Ball Club traveled south to face off with the Lewes BBC as the clubs pursue the Delaware Cup.
In the first match of the day, the Diamond States jumped out to an early 8-2 advantage after the first 3 innings. The Blue and Black expanded their lead with 5 additional tallies in their sixth turn at bat on their way to a comfortable 18-8 victory. The second match proved to be a more tightly contest affair. The Diamond States tallied 9 aces in their first turn at bat, including the first six strikers crossing the plate before the first out was recorded. However, the Lewes defenders buckled down from there and limited their northern foes to 5 aces scattered over the remainder of the game. Meanwhile, the Sussex County nine chipped away at the Diamond State lead, eventually scoring a pair of aces in their last inning to take the 16-14 victory.
The Diamond State Base Ball Club will return to action on Saturday, September 20 as they travel across the Pennsylvania border for a pair of matches against the Brandywine BBC at Pocopson Park in West Chester. The Diamond States will then finish out their home slate with a match at the Hagley Museum on September 27 as they play host to the Excelsior BBC of Arundel, Maryland.
