June 11, 2012 – The Diamond State Base Ball Club and the Chesapeake Nine set sail for Pea Patch Island yesterday for a pair of matches at the historic Fort Delaware. For the first several innings, it seemed as if the bats for both sides may have stayed on the mainland, with the Chesapeake club clinging to a 2-1 lead as the Diamond State club began their turn at the striker’s line in the 5th inning. However, the Blue & Black bats jumped to life to the tune of 9 aces over the course of the next 2 innings, as the Diamond States prevailed by the final score of 10-3.

As the sun continued to pound down on the field of play, the second match seemed to follow the same pattern as the first, with the Delaware nine doing most of their damage in a quick barrage. The strikers from the First State pushed 6 tallies across the plate in the 4th inning and the team displayed the strong pitching and defense that is characteristic of this nine. When the game drew to its conclusion, the score stood at 13-4 to the advantage of the home team.

The Diamond State BBC will continue this busy stretch of their schedule next week as they head to Rising Sun, MD for a June 16 date with the Eclipse BBC of Elkton at the Terrapin Station Winery.
