Mini Mighty for Diamond State

June 4, 2012 – The Diamond State Base Ball club played host to the Cecil Base Ball Club of Chesapeake City on June 3rd under beautiful skies at Ft. DuPont.  As is typical when these clubs meet on the field of play, the day featured a pair of tightly contested matches.

In the opening match, the Blue and Black exhibited fine play in the field and was anchored by a superb hurling effort from Dan “Mini” Minutola.  The Cecil club matched the effort of the Diamond States for much of the match, but faltered in the 3rd inning, as the Delaware bats came alive to push 6 tallies across the plate.  Fine defensive play dominated the remainder of the game, with the DSBBC playing the part of the victors by a final tally of 7-2.

The second match began with the arrival of the Cecil bats, as the visitors jumped out to an early advantage with six tallies through the first three innings.  The Diamond States kept the pressure on the Marylanders, plating five runs of their own through the middle innings.  However, in the end, it wasn’t enough as the Cecil BBC came out on top by the score of 8-5.

The Diamond State Base Ball Club will continue their season on June 10 when they set sail for Pea Patch Island to take on the Chesapeake Nine of Baltimore under the shadow of Fort Delaware.  The match will be a part of the Victorian Kids festivities being held at the fort.  The first game begins at 1:00 p.m.
