Diamond State Takes 2 of 3 in Cooperstown

Over the weekend of May 16-17, the Diamond State Base Ball Club traveled to the Ommegang Brewery in Cooperstown, NY.  The club played 2 matches on Saturday, tallying a 18-8 victory over the Mutual BBC of New York before falling to the Atlantic BBC of Brooklyn by the score of 6-4.  On Sunday, the club returned to the brewery to face off against the Neshanock BBC of Flemington, NJ and came away with a victory by the score of 15-11.

The Blue and Black were led at the striker’s line Hawthorne, who has impressed in his first year with the club.  Over the 3 matches in Cooperstown, he reached base safely in 9 of his 13 trips to the line, including 5 doubles and a triple.  Blackbart also contributed greatly to the offensive effort, with 9 hits of his own to go along with 10 stolen bases.

The Diamond State BBC’s record now stands at 7 wins to 2 losses on the season.

On May 31, the team will make their 2015 debut at their home grounds at Fort DuPont State Park in Delaware City. They will play host to the Fairplay BBC of Talbot, MD for a pair of matches beginning at 1:00 pm.
