Diamond State Splits Dover Days Matches

On May 3rd, the Diamond States made their annual journey to the Legislative Green in Dover to participate in the Dover Days tournament.  They were joined by their First State foes from the Excelsior BBC of Milford and the Lewes BBC.

In the first match of the day, the Diamond State bats continued the torrid pace that has been their hallmark so far this season on their way to a 25-11 victory over the Lewes BBC.

The victory earned them a trip to the second match of the day against the Excelsior.  As is typical when the two clubs meet, a defensive battle ensued. The Milford nine was able to pull out to an early 2-0 edge and yielded just a single tally to the Blue and Black as they held on to best the Diamond States 4-1.

The Diamond States were led by Boots, who reached safely in all 8 of his trips to the striker’s line on the day.  Blackbart (6 hits, 6 aces), Lightning (5 hits, 2 triples) and Dewey Devil (5 hits, 1 double) also had fine performances in Dover.

The 2015 schedule will next see the Diamond States make the trek to Cooperstown, NY to participate in a 2-day event at Brewery Ommegang over the May 16th weekend.

The club will then have their home opener on May 31st at Ft. DuPont State Park as they play host to their friends from the Fairplay BBC of Talbot.
