Diamond States March to Victory on Marine Parade Ground

On Saturday, September 17 the Diamond States made the trip north to Philadelphia Navy Yard for one of the nation’s premier exhibitions of 19th century baseball.

In the first match of the day, the Blue and Black had the opportunity to make friends with the gentlemen from an All-Star nine from the Territory of Colorado.  The Delaware bats came alive under the day’s sunny skies, compiling a total of 18 tallies.  Meanwhile, fine fielding held the western club to only a pair of aces.  The Diamond State bats were lead by Doc, Memphis and Sonny with 4 hits apiece.

The second match of the day saw the Diamond States get reacquainted with the Mutual BBC of New York in a closely contested affair. The contest teetered back and forth for much of the game, with the Blue and Black holding a 10-7 advantage heading into the last inning.  They surrendered 2 tallies to the New York club, but managed to tighten their belts and hold on for the 10-9 victory. Sonny and Boots each produced home runs for the Delaware side.
