Diamond States Face Tough Foe, Rough Seas

On June 12, the Diamond State BBC and the Lewes BBC set sail for Pea Patch Island in the Delaware River to play on the grounds of Fort Delaware.  The Diamond States enjoyed beautiful weather for their annual trip to the island, however had less luck on the field of play.  The match was a closely-contested affair, with the Blue and Black holding a 6-4 advantage mid-way through the 7th inning.  However, the Lewes Nine stormed ahead on the strength of 6 aces in their 7th inning and 4 more in their eighth turn.  The Diamond States were unable to muster a response, falling by the final tally of 14-7.

The Diamond States were led at the striker’s line by Hawthorne (4 hits) and Stitch (a triple in his only turn at the line).

As if being battered on the field of play wasn’t enough, the Delaware River took its shot at the club, offering a rough and wet ride back to the mainland.
