Diamond States Earn Two Wins at Home Opener
On Sunday, May 22 the Diamond State BBC played their first matches of the 2016 campaign at their home field at Ft. DuPont.
In the first match of the day, the Diamond States squared off against their friends from the Athletic BBC of Philadelphia. The Athletic club jumped out to an early advantage, tallying 6 aces in their first two innings. However the Blue and Black steadily chipped away at the difference, finally overtaking their opponents in the 5th inning. The Diamond States added some insurance with 5 aces in their 7th turn at the striker’s line. The Philadelphia side managed 2 tallies in their final turn, but the home team was able to hold on for a 13-9 victory.
After a break to picnic and watch the Athletic taken on the Rising Sun BBC, it was DSBBC’s turn to face the Rising Sun team. After surrendering a pair of aces in the 1st inning, the Diamond State fielders and expert pitching from Preacher held the visitors from Maryland to single tallies in the 3rd, 4th and 5th innings. Meanwhile, the Blue and Black bats came to life to the tune of 24 aces, on the strength of 6 tallies in the 4th and another 8 in the 5th. The final score of the 7-inning match was 24-5 in favor of the Diamond States.
