150th Anniversary of 1st Delaware Championship

On June 8, 1866 the Diamond State Base Ball Club boarded the ferry to travel down the Delaware River to take on the Atlas BBC of Delaware City in the 1st Delaware Championship.  The Diamond States were victorious that day by the score of 32-15.

To commemorate the 150th Anniversary of this match, the Brandywine BBC of West Chester donned Atlas shields and came to Delaware City to play against the Diamond States.  The modern iteration of the Blue and Black had similar success as the club of yesteryear, besting their opponents by the score of 30-10.  At the striker’s line, the club was head by Lightning, who reached base 7 times (including a home run) and tallied 6 aces.  Blackbart, Steady, Ring and Moonlight each added 5 hits apiece of the winning effort.

We would like to extend a heart-felt thanks to our friends from the Brandywine club for helping us to celebrate this important date in Delaware baseball history.
