Diamond States Victorious, Atlas Fall Against Mohican BBC

On Saturday, April 12, the Diamond State and Atlas Nines traveled to the Walker Polo Grounds in Kennett Square, PA to take on the Mohican BBC for the inaugural matches for this new entrant into the Mid Atlantic Vintage Base Ball League.
The first match of the day pitted the Diamond States against the Mohican. The Delaware nine used strong play in the field and an excellent pitching performance from Dewey Devil to hold the Mohican without a tally through their first 7 turns at the bat. Meanwhile, a steady offense produced 10 aces to give the Blue and Black a comfortable margin. The Mohican nine managed to cross the plate four times in their last two innings, but the Diamond States were able to hold on for the 10-4 victory. The Diamond States were led at the striker’s line by Boots (5 hits, 2 aces) and Dutch (3 hits, 2 aces). The victory improves the Diamond States’ record for the season to three wins versus 0 losses.
In the second match, the Atlas Nine of Delaware City took on the Mohican BBC. This was the first match of the year for the Atlas side. The Mohican bats that were quiet in the first match came to life, as the Pennsylvania side tallied 19 aces on the strength of a seven-tally fourth inning. The Atlas made a valiant attempt at a comeback, plating seven aces over their last three innings. However, it was not enough in the end as they fell by the final score of 19-9. The Atlas were lead at the striker’s line by Jefe (2 hits, 3 aces) and Gator (2 hits, 1 double, 1 ace).
The Diamond State Base Ball Club will be idle next weekend before returning to action on Sunday, April 27 as they travel to Harrington for a matchup with the reigning Delaware Cup champion Excelsior BBC of Milford. The matches will take place at Brown’s Branch County Park.
