The Diamond State Base Ball Club ventured across the Delaware River on Saturday, June 28 to play a pair of matches against the Flemington Neshanock in Princeton, NJ.  The first match was played under the bound rules of 1864.  The Blue and Black jumped out to an early advantage on the strength of eleven aces over their first two innings.  From there, the play in the field kept the Neshanock at a distance, leading to a 13-4 victory for the Delaware nine.  The club was lead at the striker’s line by the Bartnicki brothers (Blackbart and Triple B) with 3 hits apiece.

The second match of the day was played under the fly-ball rules of 1873, which was not nearly as kind to the Diamond States.  The Flemington strikers found success early and often, while the Blue and Black had trouble mounting a response.  In the end, the Delaware club found themselves on the short end of a 16-2 defeat.  The Diamond States were lead at the striker’s line by Ring, with 3 hits in as many trips to the line.  The split gave the Diamond States 9 wins and 5 losses on the season.

After a break to celebrate Independence Day, the Diamond State Base Ball Club will host their in-state rivals from Lewes on July 12 at the Goodstay Center in Wilmington.
