Fairplay, Atlantic Top Diamond State
On Sunday, June 22 the Diamond State Base Ball Club traveled to Mardela Springs, MD to be a part of the Curly Day event with our friends from the Fairplay BBC of Talbot County and the Atlantic of Brooklyn.
In their first match of the day, the Diamond States faced off with the Atlantic. The first five innings were a close back-and-forth affair, with Delaware nine trailing by a 5-3 margin. The tough Brooklyn club played the field well and produced timely striking, making for a difficult time for the Delaware nine from there on out. While holding the Diamond States to only 2 more tallies, the Atlantic plated an additional nine aces across their final three innings. At the match’s end, the Blue and Black were on the short end of a 14-5 defeat. The Diamond State strikers were led by Dutch and Blackbart, with 3 hits apiece.
The second match of the day had the Diamond States facing off with an equally challenging opponent in the Fairplays. The Diamond State strikers once again had trouble tallying aces and fell quickly behind as the Maryland club had a pair of 3-ace innings in the early going. Despite an attempt at a rally with some late game tallies, the Diamond State club fell by the final score of 13-7. The Blue and Black were led at the striking line by River, who tallied 3 aces on 3 hits, including a home run on a clout to left field.
With the pair of defeats, the Diamond States now have 4 losses on the season to go along with 8 victories.
The Diamond State BBC will return to action on Saturday, June 28 as they travel to Princeton, NJ to play the Flemington Neshanock.
