DSBBC Splits Pair with Milford & Hoboken

On June 1, the Diamond State Base Ball Club hosted the Excelsior BBC of Milford and the Hoboken Nine, as both clubs made their inaugural visits to the Ft. DuPont grounds.  The first match of the day was between the Diamond States and their inter-state foes from Milford.  The Kent County nine broke out to a strong start at the plate and limited the Delaware side to six scattered aces over the course of the match.  The final score stood at 12 aces for Milford to 6 for the Blue and Black.

After taking a break to watch a match between the two visiting nines, the Diamond State club returned to the field to take on the Hoboken Nine. The club’s strikers redeemed themselves by coming alive to push 22 aces across the plate, while holding the New Jersey club to 11 tallies.

The Diamond State Club was led at the striker’s line by Dart, Devil and Dutch, who each compiled 7 hits over the 2 games.  Blackbart contributed his power and speed by blasting a home run in each game.

The Diamond State Club returns to action next week for their annual trip to Ft. Delaware on Pea Patch Island to square off with the Athletic BBC of Philadelphia at 1:00 pm.   The game will be proceeded by an exhibition of Town Ball beginning at 12:00 pm.  Ferries to Ft. Delaware depart from Clinton Street in Delaware City.
