Diamond State Captures Win in Philadelphia

On July 13, the Diamond State Base Ball Club traveled north to Haverford Township, PA for a match against the Athletic BBC of Philadelphia.  The day’s festivities started with a spirited match of Philadelphia Town Ball, with the host club coming away with the victory in their hometown pastime.

The teams then moved to the diamond to play a game under the rules of 1864.  The Quaker City nine jumped out to an early 4-1 advantage after 2 innings.  However, the Blue and Black strikers came to life in full force through the middle innings and the fielders displayed great pluck in holding the Athletic club scoreless.  The Philadelphia nine managed to tally 3 aces in the last 2 innings, but it was too little, too late as the Diamond State Club came away with a 26-8 victory.  The Delaware nine was lead at the striker’s line by Split, who went 6-6, and Blackbart, who was 5-6 in route to hitting for the cycle.

The Diamond State BBC will return to action on Sunday, July 21 as they travel to McMillan Farm in North East, MD to take on the Rising Sun BBC.
