Diamond State and Athletic Meet on Pea Patch Island

On June 9th, the Diamond State Base Ball Club sailed the Delaware for a day of great festivities with their friends from the Athletic BBC of Philadelphia.  The day began with an exhibition of Philadelphia Town Ball, in which those in attendance at the Victorian Kids Festival were given the opportunity to join members of the two clubs on the field to try their hand at the game.

Following the exhibition, the clubs squared off in a match played under the rules of 1864.  It was a spirited match between two nines who always enjoy the opportunity to meet each other on the field of play.  Mini pitched seven innings without allowing a tally, giving the Blue and Black bats time to jump out to a commanding lead.  The club from the Quaker City would not given up the fight and managed 2 tallies in their last turns at the line.  However, in the end the Diamond State club had an 18-2 victory to show for their strong performance.  The Delaware strikers were lead by Stretch and Devil, with 4 hits each.

The Diamond State BBC will have a 2-week respite before returning to action on June 30th for a match against the Flemington Neshanock BBC in Princeton, NJ.
