DSBBC Hosting Brandywine On Saturday

April 19, 2013 – After opening the season on the road last weekend, the Diamond State Base Ball Club returns home to Fort DuPont ball field tomorrow for its Mid Atlantic Vintage Base Ball League home opener with the Brandywine Base Ball Club of West Chester (PA).  The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.

This match marks the first vintage base ball game for the newly formed Brandywine club.  The club takes its name from a team of the same name that played in West Chester from 1865 until the early 1900’s.  In the last known meetings between the original Diamond State and Brandywine clubs, which occurred in 1866 on September 6 and October 18, the teams split a pair of matches.  Brandywine won the first game, 71-43 with Diamond State taking the second, 39-22.

Diamond State’s first nine opened its fifth season of play last Sunday by defeating the Old Dominion BBC of Virginia, 19-2 in Glen Burnie, Maryland.  The Atlas, DSBBC’s second nine, dropped the next game to the host Excelsior BBC of Arundel by a score of 12-5.
