May 7, 2012 – The Diamond State BBC was honored yesterday with the opportunity to share 19th century base ball with hundreds of Dover Days Festival attendees at the state capitol’s historic Legislative Green.  Their opponent for the match was the Fairplay BBC of Talbot County, who made the journey north from their home in Easton, MD.

Enthusiastic spectators were not disappointed by the quality of play, as the two clubs battled back and forth in a match of 1864 ball that saw 4 lead changes.  The Fair Play prevailed in the bottom of the 11th inning when they scored the final tally of their 10-9 victory.

The Blue & Black were led by Frank “Flying Dutchman” Brevoort IV, Matthew “Black Bart” Bartnicki, and Jeff “Wally” Wallace with 3 hits apiece.  Rob “Lightning” Zappaterrini drove a ball through the trees in right field to record the club’s first home run of the season.

Diamond State’s season continues on May 19 when the club makes their first appearance of the year on their home grounds at Ft. DuPont in Delaware City.  They will gather at high noon for a dual with the Potomac Nine of Washington.
