DSBBC & Resolute Split a Pair

April 30, 2012 – The Diamond State Base Ball club hitched their wagons on April 28 and traveled to Rahway, NJ for their northernmost contest of the season. The first match of the day, played under the rules of 1870, was a closely played affair, with the difference being an 8-tally inning on behalf of the home team Elizabeth Resolute Base Ball Club. The fielders acquitted themselves well under the fly-ball game but the Diamond State nine had a tough time at the dish and dropped the match by tallying only 5 aces to the Resolutes’ 9.In the second match, played under the bound rules of 1864, the Blue & Black saw their bats come alive, including seeing 10 aces tallied in a single frame. The effort was led by perfect showings from Buzz (4 for 4) and Stretch (5 for 5). The fielders continued their solid play, limiting the Elizabeth nine to 4 tallies.

The split of the doubleheader moved the Diamond States’ record on the year to 4-2.

The Diamond States will next travel to the state capital at Dover for a May 6 match against the Fair Play Base Ball Club Talbot County (MD). The match is a featured part of Sunday’s Dover Days Festival and will commence at 2:00 pm on the historic Legislative Green.
