DE Nine Ends Season On High Note
September 19, 2011 The regular season finale proved to be a successful one for the Diamond State Base Ball Club yesterday, as they faced their rivals from Philadelphia on a lovely late summer afternoon at Fort DuPont State Park Ball Field.
The Athletic BBC bats were held in check in the first game of the day, as pitcher Dan “Mini” Minutola and a stout DSBBC defense held the visitors to one lone run late in the game. The Blue & Black offense posted 7 runs, cruising to their 15th victory of the season.
Diamond State was led at bat by catcher and assistant captain Frank “Flying Dutchman” Brevoort (3-3 with one double), first baseman Scott “Stretch” Rawding (3-4) and third baseman and captain Garrett “Steady” Perdick (2-3).
The Philadelphia nine jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the second game, as the Blue & Black struggled early in the field. Diamond State rallied back with 9 unanswered runs to sweep the match.
Greg “Memphis” Boulden provided strong relief as pitcher for Mini. Joe “Deuce” Minutola rang up 3 hits, including a double, in his late season return. Andy “Lynchmob” Lynch, Steady, Stretch and Mini also had multiple hit games.
Diamond State finished the regular season with 16 wins against 10 losses, the club’s best season since reforming in 2009. They now prepare to play in the six-team Mid Atlantic Vintage Base Ball League Championship Tournament to be held on Sunday, October 2 at the Fort DuPont Parade Ground in Delaware City.
