DSBBC at 8/21 Event In Lewes
August 11, 2010 The Diamond State Base Ball Club is pleased to be participating in a special 19th century base ball game in Lewes, Delaware on Saturday, August 21, 2010 beginning at 1:00 p.m. The event, which is sponsored by the Lewes, Milton and Rehoboth Beach Historical Societies, will be held at the University of Delaware’s Virden Center ballfield on the Lewes campus, located at 700 Pilottown Road. The event is free and open to the public.
Aside from the Diamond States, members from three other Mid Atlantic Vintage Base Ball League clubs, Chesapeake Base Ball Club of Baltimore, the Eclipse Base Ball Club of Elkton, and the Fair Play Base Ball Club of Talbot County, will also be participating.
The ball game will feature players in vintage style uniforms using reproduction equipment, emulating the rules and customs of 1864 base ball.
The historical societies hope to utilize the August 21 event to gauge interest in forming a new Cape Henlopen Base Ball Club.
