Blue & Black Drop Two In NJ
August 1, 2010 - The Blue and Black once again hitched up their wagons and headed north to Rahway, New Jersey to take on the Elizabeth Resolutes in beautiful Rahway River Park. The Resolutes batting first and were unable to get any offense going, as the Blue and Black held them scoreless, however, the Diamond States were also unable to get any offense going in the bottom of the first, or for the remainder of the game, as they were held to one run over the seven inning contest. Elizabeth cruised easily to a 14-1 victory in the first game of the double header. ˜Dutch” was 2-3 at the plate with a triple and the lone tally.
After a brief break, the Diamond States looked to avenge their poor showing in the first game and came out of the gates strong, scoring 5 runs in the first two innings to hold a 5-2 lead. The Resolutes rebounded though, scoring 6 runs in a furious rally in the third inning to take an 8-5 lead. Diamond State plated 2 runs in the fourth inning but were unable to push the tying ace across the plate in the remaining innings, falling 8-7 in a finely played match by both sides. Multiple players had a two hit day for the Diamond States: ˜Dutch” (2 aces), ˜Steady” (1 ace), ˜Buzzsaw” (1 ace), ˜One Finger” (1 ace), and ˜Ring” (1 ace).
Diamond State’s record drops to 7-14 for the season.
