DSBBC Shows Heart In Win Over HdG
July 26, 2010 Looking to bounce back from the winless outcome of the All-American Vintage Base Ball Tournament, the Diamond State Base Ball Club returned to the friendly confines of Ft. DuPont to host the Dauntless Base Ball Club of Havre de Grace, Maryland.
The Dauntless batted first and plated three runs in the top of the first inning. Diamond State was up to the task and over the first five innings, carved out a 13-4 lead. Not ones to back away from a challenge, the Dauntless rose to the occasion and mounted a furious rally over the last two innings. However, timely defensive plays from the Blue and Black stopped the Dauntless rally short of them overtaking the lead. The Diamond States were able to hold onto and escape with a 13-9 victory.
Unfortunately, the second game of the day began but was called off in the bottom of the first inning when a violent storm descended upon Delaware City.
Diamond State’s record raised to 7-12 overall and 3-3 in the Mid Atlantic Vintage Base Ball League’s Eastern Division.
“Dutch” was a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate with three aces and a double. “Stretch” contributed to the offense with a 4 for 4 day. “Steady” also was 3-3 with a double and an ace.
